The sales funnel approach to marketing is part of a coordinated marketing plan for successfully selling products, which is used by top internet marketers to dominate a niche. The metaphor of a funnel, with its wide top and narrow bottom, is used to monitor the sales process and seek raving fans that buy repeatedly, providing a constant stream of business.
The top of the funnel captures the “unqualified prospects” – people who might need the service or product, but who have not been introduced to the product yet, whereas at the bottom of the funnel are people who have bought the service or product and willing to buy more.
The idea of a sales funnel is to turn those unqualified prospects at the top of the funnel to qualified prospects, by guiding them to the narrow end of the funnel, through various front-end promotions.
Turning prospects into new customers by offering low-cost front-end products such as information products establishes credibility and the customers’ trust. This helps draw those customers down the funnel to the narrowest level or the back-end, where higher priced items are sold to the small but strong and willing customer base.
Marketing creativity shines and all this is possible only when prospects are attracted at the top of the funnel and nurtured carefully. The process of the marketing funnel needs continuous nourishment to ensure success in the long term and to stay ahead of competition.
